EARLIER WORK
I’ve been working in CG television since its inception with Reboot in the early 90’s. Here is a sample of some of the older series I have directed.
Early Demo Reel
I’ve been lucky that my early career was filled with directing work on several great CG cartoons, starting with Reboot and winding its way through Beast Wars, Action Man, Spider-man, Inspector Gadget, Scary Godmother and many others.
Weirdohs
Weirdohs was based on a series of model kits from the 60's that were in the same vein as the Big Daddy Roth hotrods. We had to tame the image a bit for the Fox Family channel but we still had loads of fun breaking all sorts of rules we had been working with on our action shows. We could favor gags over plot, make liberal use of abstract backgrounds and pretty much do whatever we thought was funny. We got really good at animating over-the-top takes and car burnouts. An underrated series in my opinion
Action Man
Extreme sports star by day, undercover operative by night! Really cool art direction at the time andlots of neat action set pieces. Stories could have used a little work, but I guess they were pare forthe course on Saturday morning television.
Reboot
Reboot was an intelligent, multi-layered, funny, exciting adventure about characters living in a computer and just happened to be the first CG animated TV series ever made. I still love this show despite its dated animation. The stories and pop-culture mash-ups still hold up today even if the early CG shows its age.
War Planets
Spaceships blasting each other out of the heavens and vast armies battling below. If we knew how hard it was going to be to do all that for a CG series back in '98, we all would have run screaming into the retail industry.
The designs were pretty sweet though, especially Planet Bone. The leader's spaceship was all oozing walls and sphincter doors. Very Cronenberg but, you know, for kids!
